Electric Car Motor

Features Of Electric Car Motor

Electric car motor is the most significant component of the electric car. It is supported by a rear bracket in such a way that the shaft gets fixed in the axial direction. Over the non-working side of the rotating shaft, an outer ring of a ball bearing is utilized whereas over its working side, a cylindrical roller bearing is used. There is also an oil seal which has an inner diameter more than that of the outer diameter of the inner ring of cylindrical bearing.

A driving motor comprises of the following components in a section of electric induction with a stator and a rotor along with a rotating shaft.

1) There is a rear bracket which provides support to the stator as well as to one end of the rotating shaft through a first bearing, comprising an outer ring which is fixed over the rear bracket.

2) There is a front bracket which is present over the work side of the rotating shaft along with a rear bracket that covers an electric induction section.

3) Its output carrier is located towards the inner side of a ring gear which is a component of an epicyclic reduction gear. This output carrier is tightly fastened at the anterior side by a front bracket via second bearing. In order to reduce the rotation of the rotating shaft, it is connected to one end portion of the rotating shaft.

4) Its cylindrical roller bearing attaches rotating shaft to the output carrier firmly in which the inner ring of the cylindrical roller is attached to the rotating shaft whereas outer inner ring is firmly fixed to an output carrier.

5) In order to fix the rear end of the output carrier via third bearing, its intermediate bracket is located in between the front bracket and rear bracket.

Working of an Electric Motor

An electric motor with the above-mentioned configuration begins its working with the supply of AC voltage of low frequency and polyphase which will be supplied from a source of power mounted over the car to the induction motor 1. This supply of power will lead to the rotation of the rotating shaft 8 at a low speed because of the epicycle reduction gear 16. Then its transmission via the output carrier 22 to the input shaft will lead to the propulsion of the electric car. The speed of the car is detected by the speed sensor 32, and in order to increase the speed of car, increase the frequency of the AC voltage which is supplied initially to the induction motor 1.

Various Problems Linked With Electric Motor

The following are the certain problems associated with the electric motor: 1) There occurs a problem of noise because of the movement of the rotating shaft 8 in a particular range in the axial direction of the rotating shaft.

2) There are the chances that the bearings may get damaged because of the production of scratches over the outer surfaces as well as inner rings of the bearing box due to abrasion.

3) The higher peripheral speed of the rotating shaft decreases the life span of the oil seal 25 and also leads to the lowering down of the sealing properties.

It is advisable to gain sufficient knowledge about the features and working of the electric car motor in order to lengthen the life of your car motor as well as of your electric car.
